Knowing God Through His Word

0:37 have a very special guest today. So we had a long session with

0:44 our guests in the last two episodes.

0:53 So we're asking him, Sir, we really need to see you again,

0:56 can you come again? And then he now obliged us and

1:00 said to come again. So he's not a person then?

1:13 so much for coming. AK AM Ng All right, so welcome,

1:19 Sir. So today we're looking at

1:20 knowing God through His Word. So do you think he can know God

1:23 through His Word? Well, it's possible, but how?

1:26 So, Sir, that's what we want you to handle today.

1:29 How can we know God through His Word?

1:32 OK, so I want to say thank. Thank you for another

1:37 opportunity to share the Word of God.

1:40 And I think this topic is for me more than for any other person

1:45 that is going to be hearing this, you know, So I'll start

1:49 with a simple statement. I trust that God will guide us

1:55 through this session. So we're in a generation that

1:58 wants to do things for God but does not want to have a

2:01 relationship with Him. And this same generation, the

2:06 Bible has said so many things about it.

2:08 So look at some 2 scriptures. I have two scriptures for that.

2:12 The first one is Matthew 15, verse 8 to 9.

2:15 He says, These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and

2:19 honour Me with their lips, but their heart is far away from me,

2:23 and in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the

2:26 commandments of men. So you see that in this place we

2:30 could see that their hearts is far away from me.

2:35 It's showing that there's an absence of something that the

2:38 Lord is looking for. And we could see them.

2:42 We could also see it in Matthew Chapter 7, verse 23.

2:45 And then I, I would declare to them, I never knew you depart

2:50 from me. You who practice lawlessness.

2:52 You know these people said we did this in your name.

2:55 We casted out devils and everything, but God came and

2:59 said you used me. I never knew you, I never had a

3:04 relationship with you. And so God is looking for a

3:08 relationship and not service. It's the reason why I started

3:11 with a relationship, you know, is as we work with God, as we

3:17 journey with God, when we look at the scriptures, we look at

3:21 the way God, you know, worked with different people in the

3:25 scriptures. We find out that one of the

3:27 basic ways to know God is true, having a relationship with him.

3:32 Now I another important concept you know about this knowing God

3:39 is in Matthew chapters 4 verse 11.

3:41 It says now Adam knew his wife and she conceived and borking

3:46 and said I have acquired a man from the Lord.

3:50 It means that when this knowledge, when you know God,

3:54 there will always be a resulting effect and one of those effects

3:59 is that one a change in beliefs, a change in mindset. 2 It will

4:04 be production of fruits. Your works, you know, will begin

4:09 to be changed. The Bible said that the word

4:12 became flesh and it dwell among men full of grace and truth.

4:17 You know, once there's an encounter with God, they must be

4:20 a resultant effect. If you say that you know God,

4:24 then the litmus test of knowing whether you have really

4:27 encountered God is what can we see the result of Adam knowing

4:33 his wife is, you know, Kane and Abel and later we could see set

4:39 and so so when we meet with God, there's something that is

4:42 supposed to happen. So let us look at these

4:45 scriptures. John chapter 17, verse three.

4:48 You know, I want us to understand why God is really,

4:51 really interested in this concept about knowing him.

4:56 The Bible said and this is eternal life, that they may know

5:00 you, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

5:04 So it means the most important thing is knowing God.

5:09 Then the next one is second Peter one verse 3.

5:12 His divine power has given us everything required for life and

5:16 godliness through the knowledge of him.

5:20 It means that knowledge gives us access to everything in God.

5:25 Then Philippians chapter 3 was then that I may know Him and the

5:30 power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings

5:34 being confirmed to him to his death.

5:37 He also said invest its religious go back.

5:40 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the

5:44 surpassing what of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose

5:47 sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage that I

5:51 may gain Christ. It shows, you know, that the

5:54 ultimate thing in life is knowing God.

5:59 I want to say here that the highest level of knowledge a man

6:03 can ever encounter is the knowledge of God.

6:06 Because a lot of us know, you know, these principles of God,

6:11 the ways of God, but we never, you know, had the knowledge of

6:15 God. And that's why the Bible says in

6:17 Matthew 6 verse 23 that we must seek Him first, you know, not

6:23 all other things but Him first. And you know, pattern our lives

6:27 to be right with Him as we discussed in the last episode.

6:30 So there are 9 points I want us to understand in this place.

6:34 One, that the knowledge of God is the highest level of

6:37 knowledge a man can ever attain to.

6:39 And this knowledge is all that pertains to life and godliness,

6:43 as we have seen in the scriptures we have read.

6:46 Three. We are supposed to seek Him

6:49 first, the knowledge of God. Four, we cannot know God until

6:53 He chooses to reveal Himself to us.

6:56 Five, God's desire is that we should know Him.

6:59 He's our Father, and there's no Father that hides himself from

7:02 his children. Jesus.

7:03 When he was praying for his disciples, he said that they may

7:06 know you, the one and true God. Then in six points no one can

7:14 know everything about God. He's depth at too deep beyond

7:20 human imagination. There is no one that can know

7:23 everything about God. Then the seven point is knowing

7:27 God is a lifelong pursuit. In the last episode, we could

7:31 see how God has sentenced us. You know, he said for all his

7:35 life he shall read this laws which you saw in the book of

7:38 Deuteronomy, shall study this law.

7:40 He must seek this law all the days of his life.

7:44 And so it means that it is a lifelong pursuit because he's

7:47 never, never a day. You graduate from knowing God.

7:50 Every single day you find something different about him.

7:53 And then the eighth point, we cannot understand God without

7:58 common sense. Come on, God is His spirit.

8:01 You are a person and you have the body, the soul and the

8:07 spirit. The reason why God puts the

8:09 spirit in you is because the means of interacting with Him is

8:13 through the Spirit. He said they that worship me

8:17 must worship me in spirit and in truth.

8:21 So God can only be worshipped. God can only be known in the

8:24 spirit. Then it is God's Spirit.

8:28 It is God's Spirit that reveal God's to us.

8:31 And to know God we must engage the Holy Spirit.

8:36 So here I want us to see the difference between two key

8:40 points. 1 is the knowledge about God versus the knowledge of God.

8:44 I believe many of us may not have clear understanding about

8:48 this. You know the knowledge about God

8:50 is theoretical. You know the names of God, His

8:53 attributes, his character, his nature, His ways, His

8:57 principles, and all sorts. You can remember His power to

9:02 create. You know all these things are

9:05 you know the knowledge about God.

9:09 But the second point is that knowing God is an experiential

9:14 knowledge of God, and you can only know a person when you sit

9:19 with that person is not a one of mechanism is a consistent

9:24 process. So you must sit with the person,

9:27 you must work with the person. And that's why when you look at

9:30 the scripture scattered, you see that Noah worked with God, other

9:35 people worked with him. You see Abraham, you see the

9:38 remaining, you know. So knowing God is in an entire

9:44 different class from the knowledge about God.

9:46 And it is more superior than the knowledge about God.

9:50 Because a lot of people may tell you what they know about me, but

9:53 it's only someone that has stayed with me for a long time

9:57 that we're able to have the knowledge of me experientially

10:02 based on how I've interacted with him, based on how I've

10:05 communicated with him, and based on the kind of things we do

10:09 together. Back to the first point, I made

10:12 mention that we are in a generation that want to do

10:15 things for God, but we don't want to work with God.

10:19 When you look at the book of Genesis chapter 6, you'll begin

10:22 to see that you know, Noah worked with God before his

10:26 assignment. The Bible recorded it that he

10:28 was a just a righteous man is the genealogy of Noah.

10:32 He was a just a righteous man and he worked with God.

10:36 Then God now began to give him an assignment.

10:39 So it is always a walk before the walk.

10:42 Let me say it, it is the blue ALK before the blue ORK.

10:48 To work with a person, you must be you must be heading the same

10:52 direction with that person and you must also be in the same,

10:56 you know, in agreement with that person for a walk you know to

11:01 happen because the Bible said can 2 work together, except they

11:05 agree. And so we are in a generation

11:08 that prioritizes walk of our work.

11:11 All right, So how can we know God?

11:13 This is the main, you know, meat of the matter.

11:16 One is true, a relationship with him.

11:19 And I think I've emphasized it over and over.

11:22 I want to read Genesis chapter 6 verse 9, which I quoted earlier.

11:26 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in

11:30 his generation. Noah walked with God.

11:33 One of the ways we can know God is by walking with him know, by

11:38 agreeing with him, by sitting under him, and by joining true

11:43 life together with him. One of the reason why I know

11:46 that God is a protector, and I gave him the name the Lord my

11:51 protector is because I've seen him deliver me from death.

11:56 I've seen him deliver me from ghastly accidents is an

12:00 experiential knowledge. This one is not what they said

12:02 God can provide. I know that God is a provider is

12:05 not that God can provide. He is a provider and so when you

12:10 work with God, you begin to experience the knowing of him.

12:15 Then in James chapter 4 verse 8, it says draw near to God and he

12:21 will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners,

12:24 and purify your hearts. You double minded.

12:27 So God wants us to draw near to him.

12:29 What is he looking for? He's looking for a relationship.

12:32 See from the creation of man. Man was never created to be

12:36 independent and you know the deceit of independence was the

12:41 greatest deceit that has ever happened in human time.

12:45 The Satan told man that you know if you eat this fruit of the

12:48 knowledge of good and evil, you become like who you become like

12:51 God and you know good and if you can survive on your own.

12:56 What God created man to be dependent on him.

13:00 God created man to be in partnership in him.

13:03 He said something in the book of is it efficiency where his

13:07 workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which he

13:11 has created, you know, which he has prepared for us from the

13:14 beginning that we should work in it.

13:18 So you want to know God become his friend, you know, stay with

13:22 him, sit with him. And when God is making statement

13:25 to Abraham like that, He also make it to you.

13:27 Is there anything that I can hide from my servants Nasiru and

13:31 he begins to unravel his secrets.

13:33 So friendship with God, though we are supposed to be friends

13:37 with God and, you know, and enemies with the world, not the

13:42 opposite way, not to be friends with the world and enemies of

13:46 God. And once we are friends with

13:48 this world, we are indirectly enemies of God.

13:51 One way we can know God is true, having a relationship with him,

13:55 God will begin to reveal himself to us.

13:59 And the second point is, you know, we cannot go through the

14:01 Scriptures. Now this same God that wants to

14:06 know be in a relationship, in friendship with us, sent us a

14:09 love letter, which is the Scriptures.

14:12 Now the Scriptures are all talking about God.

14:16 If you want to know God, we have to come to the person of Jesus

14:19 and all Scripture points us to Jesus.

14:23 Now, when you start from the beginning, where man fell from

14:27 the garden, you know, the Garden of Eden, it is a presence.

14:32 You know, Eden is a presence, is not a location, it's not a

14:35 place. So God sent money away from the

14:38 garden and from there we could see that a prophecy, God

14:42 released a word and said that the offspring of this woman, you

14:47 know, will bruise your head and then you shall strike his heel.

14:52 He was talking about Jesus from that same point.

14:55 And so every single history that continued, you know, was talking

14:59 about Jesus. See, let me let me bring

15:02 something about Jesus. You see how the earth was

15:05 condemned with flood in Matthew Chapter 7 and Genesis Chapter 7

15:11 is trying to point out, you know something about Jesus also there

15:15 for us that Jesus is the ark and only if we can enter into that

15:20 ark, we are going to be what we are going to be saved because

15:25 this earth and everything in it is going to be destroyed.

15:28 This is pointing us to Jesus. Look at the story of Abraham.

15:33 You know when God asked him to sacrifice his son.

15:36 That story is also pointing us to Jesus, the sacrificial Lamb

15:42 of God. He said go and sacrifice your

15:45 Son, your only son. And God also has one son, the

15:49 only begotten Son. So when you look at the Bible is

15:52 scattered, you see, no, not scattered is orderly arranged

15:58 and it is illustrating Jesus. And the message of the

16:00 Scriptures is the message about Jesus and it is the message of

16:04 redemption. So it is chronologically

16:07 arranged. And even when redemption

16:11 happened, you know, it happened at a time when God really wanted

16:16 it to happen because at that same time when Jesus came, he

16:20 started preaching about the Kingdom.

16:23 And by restoring us back to the Kingdom that was the message is

16:26 not to create another religion. The emphasis of God is to what

16:31 restore us back to the original thing he created.

16:35 They let us make man in our own image and after our own likeness

16:39 and let them have dominion. And so we fell from that place.

16:43 We we fell from that point. And So what Jesus came to do was

16:46 to restore us back to our original purpose, back to, you

16:50 know, to God. So in John chapter 5, verse 39

16:53 to 14, he said you study the scriptures diligently because

16:57 you think that in them you have eternal life.

17:00 These are the very scriptures that tested testify about me.

17:05 Yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

17:07 You see that again, it's the relationship we are looking for.

17:11 So one way to know God is to look at the man Jesus is to look

17:16 at the scriptures. Jesus is not just in the New

17:18 Testament, He's in every page of the Bible.

17:22 And so we have to settle down and begin to look at him.

17:25 Then look chapter 24, verse 27 says and beginning at Moses and

17:30 all the prophets, he expanded with them in all the Scriptures

17:34 the things concerning himself, beginning with who?

17:37 With Moses, who wrote Genesis in Moses.

17:41 So from beginning to the end, everything written about the

17:44 Scriptures point us to the person who Jesus and Jesus is.

17:48 God is one with God. How can we truly know God from

17:54 his scriptures? Jesus said in John chapter 14

17:57 verse 7, if you had known me, you will have known my Father

18:00 also and from now on you know him and have seen him because

18:05 Thomas was asking Jesus in this scripture John chapter 14 verse

18:09 seven that show us the Father and Jesus.

18:12 If you have seen, you have seen the Father.

18:14 Then Colossians chapter one verse 15 says Jesus is the image

18:19 of the invisible God, the first born of our creation.

18:23 Hebrews chapter one verse one to two says God, who at various

18:27 times and in various ways spoke in time passed to the fathers by

18:31 the prophets, has in this last days spoken to us by his Son,

18:35 whom He has appointed here of all things, through whom also He

18:39 made the world. So it is true, Jesus, that we

18:43 understand God, that we understand God clearly.

18:48 There are many other ways, you know, there are many ways we can

18:51 know God. And the knowledge of God,

18:54 knowledge basically is classified into, I think two or

18:57 three. You know, we have the knowledge

18:59 of God, you know, the knowledge of the principles of God and the

19:03 knowledge of the ways of God. And out of all these things that

19:07 you know, the knowledge of God, as we said earlier, is the

19:10 highest level of knowledge. I want us to consider these

19:14 things the first Corinthians chapter 2 verse 9 says, but as

19:19 it is written, eyes has not seen nor ear head nor have entered

19:24 into the heart of man the things God has prepared for those who

19:27 love him. So what is your question?

19:30 This is found in first Corinthians chapter 2 verse 9

19:33 and KJV. But is a question how can we

19:36 love someone we don't trust and how can we trust someone we

19:40 don't know? And what's the proof of our

19:43 obedience? Without trusts, then how can we

19:45 experience someone who we don't obey?

19:48 So our journey to knowing God, as described by I Saw this about

19:53 Jane Willand, begins with knowing Him.

19:56 And after knowing Him, we begin to trust him.

19:59 Because when you know somebody, when somebody, an entire

20:03 stranger, comes and asks you to do something, you will likely

20:07 not do it. But when you stay with the

20:09 person you begin to know the person you begin to form trust.

20:13 About that same person and when you begin to form trust about

20:17 the person, you begin to obey him.

20:19 So after you know experiencing him, then you begin to love him

20:24 and the more you love the person, the more you want to

20:27 know the person and that's how it is also with knowing God.

20:32 All right, so and so how do we know God is divided into 3

20:36 according to this. You know that one that one is

20:42 that when we make a commitment to know him through his word

20:46 through searching him in every passage of the Bible.

20:49 So when we go back to the Scriptures, our attitude is not

20:54 different when you pick up a chapter, ask God what reveal

20:58 yourself to me from this scripture.

21:00 What can I know about you? Because sometimes we just want

21:03 to learn heavy things from scripture lessons.

21:07 I will still go and feel God at the end of the time, but what He

21:11 wants is knowing. Because when you know a person,

21:14 you begin to obey. It is not by knowing the

21:17 instructions, is not by knowing the laws, is by knowing the

21:21 person of the law. But when you know the person of

21:24 the law, you begin to obey the person because trust has already

21:28 been formed. The next thing is to make a

21:31 commitment to living the world and becoming right with Him so

21:36 that we'll be able to know Him more.

21:38 Obedience. We have highlighted that if we

21:41 don't obey, that chain is broken.

21:43 Because you when you know God, you begin to form trust and you

21:48 begin to obey and you begin to experience Him.

21:51 And when you experience Him, you need to love Him.

21:53 And the more you love a person, the more you want to know Him

21:57 more than the last one is teaching the world to others so

22:00 that they can know God more. The more you teach the world,

22:03 the more you find out that you don't know about God and the

22:06 more you want to know him more, the more you teach the world,

22:09 the more you know him It it pushes you to go and you know,

22:13 learn more about this God and you know, learning about God is

22:18 enjoyable. Let me just before I round off.

22:20 I was we wrote Pediatrics and RNG for our 4th MBBS earlier and

22:27 there was this particular you know, some days like that

22:30 anytime I wake up to read and I say, you know, seek ye first the

22:34 Kingdom of God. Let me start with the Bible.

22:36 No study them. I found out that there was this

22:38 wooing spirit that used to woo me like I will stay on that

22:42 scripture. Rhema will be flowing lessons

22:45 will be understanding insights. You know, studying God's word is

22:49 enjoyable and I wanted to give it a try.

22:53 If you have not studied the Bible yet, no Sit down, read

22:57 through the pages of the Bible. Decide to seek this God through

23:01 the pages of the Bible and at each page ask Him.

23:05 Lord, reveal yourself to me. What can I know about you in

23:08 this place? Because it is only what you know

23:11 about God that we believe our our actions are a product of our

23:15 belief, are the product of the things we believe.

23:18 And so I want us to really trust God, to really spend time with

23:21 him and also know Him so that we'll be able to know him better

23:25 and do the things that He has asked us to do in Jesus name.

23:31 Well, I know so profound. Thank you so much, Sir.

23:34 Like that's when they said I stood up for me.

23:37 I think I would just say them. So you are like, it's always the

23:41 work before the work. And it actually made a lot of

23:44 sense to me because maybe we want to work but forget about

23:47 the work. And then there's something like

23:49 my street train was speaking. So knowing about God is

23:52 different from knowing God where one is an experiential

23:56 knowledge, the other one is a theoretical knowledge.

24:00 So when we have experiential knowledge of God, we actually

24:02 see all the transformations and evidences of knowing God.

24:27 word for us is we created for a reason.

24:30 We created for a purpose. We are not our own.

24:33 We are owned by God, but apart from just, you know, being owned

24:37 by him. You know, God created us to be,

24:41 you know, vice agent, to be in control, in dominion with him.

24:46 And we fell from the very beginning in Genesis chapter 3.

24:50 And we inherited that nature in Genesis chapter 5 because Adam

24:54 began to bore children in his own image, not in the image of

24:58 God. And that's how we took the image

25:00 of Adam. And you know, but glory be to

25:04 God, Christ came, He saved us, He delivered us, and he's

25:08 restoring us back to himself. So one of the things I really

25:12 urge us to do is to begin to seek this God, to seek his

25:16 Kingdom, as the Bible has also said in the book of Matthew,

25:19 chapter 6, verse 33, to seek him to understand our place in the

25:24 Kingdom, to understand you, God the King, the Lord, and our

25:28 place, the Kingdom and our place in the Kingdom so that the will

25:31 of God will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
